Is cash still widely used?

Yes. Zimbabwe’s currency history — including hyperinflation and currency reforms — has made USD the dominant practical currency. The Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) was introduced in 2024 but USD remains widely preferred for most transactions.

ATMs and withdrawing cash

ATM infrastructure is limited and unreliable. Foreign cards have very inconsistent success.

Card acceptance

Limited. Victoria Falls tourist hotels and some Harare upscale establishments accept cards. Most of the country requires USD cash.
