Is cash still widely used?
Yes. Zambia is predominantly cash-based. Local markets, transport, and most businesses require kwacha cash. USD is also widely accepted at tourist lodges and for larger transactions. Mobile money (MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money) is growing among locals.
ATMs and withdrawing cash
ATMs are available in Lusaka and Livingstone. Zanaco and Standard Chartered machines accept foreign cards.

Card acceptance
Low. Safari lodges and tourist hotels accept cards for pre-booked packages. Livingstone (near Victoria Falls) has better card acceptance for tourist spending. Local markets and transport require cash.

- Victoria Falls is shared with Zimbabwe — both sides are spectacular
- Carry kwacha and USD for flexibility across tourist areas
- Tipping guides, trackers, and camp staff is important
- Lower Zambezi and Kafue national parks are remote — carry ample cash
