Is cash still widely used?
Yes. Paraguay is predominantly cash-based. Local markets, transport, restaurants, and most businesses outside Asunción’s upscale areas require guaraní cash. Note that the guaraní comes in large denominations — 100,000 PYG is approximately $13 USD.
ATMs and withdrawing cash
ATMs are available in Asunción and larger cities. Banco Continental and Itaú Paraguay machines accept foreign cards.
