Is cash still widely used?

Rarely. The Netherlands has embraced cashless payments strongly. Debit cards (via PIN) are the dominant payment method, and iDEAL is used for online payments. Many Dutch businesses — including some supermarkets — have gone fully cashless.

ATMs and withdrawing cash

ATMs (geldautomaat) are available in cities and town centres. ING and ABN AMRO machines are the most widespread.

Card acceptance

Excellent. Visa and Mastercard are accepted broadly, though the local Maestro/V Pay system is dominant among Dutch residents. Contactless is universal.
