Cash usage in Libya

Is cash still widely used?

Cash is the only option. Libya’s ongoing political instability and banking sector disruption means foreign cards are non-functional. All transactions require cash β€” either Libyan dinars exchanged locally or USD/EUR for larger transactions.

ATMs and withdrawing cash

Foreign cards do not work in Libyan ATMs. Bring all necessary foreign currency and exchange to dinars at licensed money changers.

Card acceptance

None for foreign visitors.
