Liberia uses the US dollar alongside the Liberian dollar. Cash is essential across the country, with very limited card infrastructure outside Monrovia.

Is cash still widely used?

Yes. Liberia is predominantly cash-based. USD is widely used alongside Liberian dollars for most transactions. Markets, local transport, restaurants, and businesses require cash. Card infrastructure is essentially non-existent outside a handful of Monrovia hotels.

Very limited ATM access for foreign cards. Ecobank Liberia occasionally accepts foreign cards in Monrovia.
