Is cash still widely used?
Yes. Guyana is predominantly cash-based. Local transport, markets, restaurants, and businesses across the country require Guyanese dollar cash. Georgetown has some card acceptance at larger hotels and businesses. USD is also widely accepted.
ATMs and withdrawing cash
ATMs are available in Georgetown. Republic Bank and Scotiabank Guyana machines accept foreign cards.

- Very limited ATM availability outside Georgetown
- Withdraw all necessary cash before heading to the interior or Kaieteur Falls
