Is cash still widely used?
Yes, entirely. Burundi is one of Africa’s poorest countries and is almost entirely cash-based. Markets, transport, guesthouses, restaurants, and all businesses require franc cash. USD is also accepted at some tourist-facing businesses.
ATMs and withdrawing cash

Card acceptance
Very low. A small number of hotels in Bujumbura accept cards. Everywhere else requires cash.
